A private plane with an unresponsive pilot traveled more than 1,400 miles over the Atlantic Ocean off the East Coast and into the Caribbean on Friday, with a fighter-jet escort unable to render aid.

The plane took off at 8:45 a.m. from the Greater Rochester International Airport, according to local officials. Air traffic controllers were last able to contact the pilot of the Socata TBM700, a high performance single-engine turboprop, at 10 a.m. the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

News10NBC’s Amanda Ciavarri is reporting that the plane belongs to Rochester real estate magnate and developer Larry Glazer who is working on a $59-million plan to redevelop the former Midtown Plaza and also owns the Bausch and Lomb building and several other downtown Rochester properties. An airport employee tells us they saw Glazer board the plane. It is unclear if he is piloting the plane or if he is a passenger.
